To my girls on Mothers Day

To my darling, gorgeous daughters

So, it's not quite Mothers Day yet...but I don't plan to blog on Sunday. Oh no, I expect to spend the day in bed with my new Mo Hayder novel, feasting on corn fritters with avocado and sipping champagne, while you and your Dad leave me to luxuriate in peace.

This is my first Mothers Day with both of you and I couldn't adore either of you more. You need to know that you are both so special: your mum and dad had to fight for a long time to have one of you, and battle for months to keep the other. You're so worth every minute we spent on both those wild and twisting rollercoasters.

I love everything about you...even when you're keeping me awake in the middle of the night (yes, I'm talking to you, Sophia) or chucking a massive tantie on the kitchen floor (not mentioning any names, Olivia).

One of the best things? Looking at you and seeing little pieces of your dad and I, and marvelling that we made two such beautiful creatures.

I love seeing your eyes light up and your faces splitting into smiles when you see me. I like being the one who can soothe your hurt and make you better.

It spins me out every day that I'm responsible for teaching you about this big, wide world and I am both proud and a wee bit scared to have that task. I adore seeing things through your eyes and revelling in experiences as if for the first time.

I could munch on your chubby cheeks all day and hold you both for the rest of my days.

I am so very, very glad that I am your mum. You make my sun shine brighter ever day.

I love you, my little girls and I am so excited by your potential to be wonderful, compassionate and warm women. And, yes, one day mothers yourselves.

That was sweet. Motherhood is so wonderful. Have a great time on Sunday - sounds great.

This is the most gorgeous post, Amanda, your girls are loved by a wonderful mum. Enjoy your champers with corn fritters and avocado, and good luck for however long you can actually stay in bed before the tears erupt into tanties because mummy won't get out of bed, she is too busy luxuriating. I can hear the eldest on the phone to grandma now, mummy's in bed urinating.

On second thoughts, Amanda, can I ask that my sorry attempt at humour please be excused. Thank you.
