It's no secret that I love cooking. My time in the kitchen is cheap therapy...the methodical chopping and measuring, the stirring and, finally, tasting the end result...it's 'alone' time I relish.
I'm a teensy bit embarrassed to admit that - when I have time, at least - I'm one of those anal prep people who gets everything ready and sitting in little white bowls so it's all ready for me to cook with. So, I get quite distressed when anyone messes with my stuff.
Cue my lovely husband. He takes great delight in invading my kitchen and stealing bits from my perfectly weighed and measured ingredients. It. Drives. Me. Absolutely. Bananas.
Unfortunately, he knows this and thinks it's hilarious...so continues to do it. Also on the 'arrrghhh' scale, but further down, is his insistence on tasting things from the pot before I serve it. I get all twitchy just thinking about it. Lucky, I love him to bits so put up with it...
So, time to share...what is the most irksome thing your lovely partner does? Feel free to comment anonymously if confessing will come back to bite...

My husband will walk into the kitchen, look into the pot, give it a stir, add a shake of something, then nod knowingly & say "Mm.... much better".
You want better, honey? Then COOK IT YOURSELF.
Grrrrrrrrr...
haha my dad does the exact same thing to my mum! He will pick and pick at the ingredients on the bench and she then takes it out of his meal, very funny to watch, but i imagine frustrating for mum.
when i first moved in with my husband the more revolting thing i observed was that he washed the toilets wearing the same gloves that he washes the dishes. he still to this day doesn't understand what is so wrong with it?
apart from that u caught me on a bad day so EVERYTHING is annoying and irksome!
grr
*more should read most
my boyfriend tries to help me but it usually results in more work for me.
like. i hate chopping onions i always end up with onion smelling hands for days [anyone know how to stop this?] and so i asked him to do it. :)
question one: how do i get the brown skin off?
question two: how do i cut it?
question three: is that enough?
question four: can i go now?
lol. he is okay when i have everything on and ready and he just had to stir or turn.
Dear bugmum. Ummm... where do I start?! Kidding. I just HATE that my husband walks into the house, gets changed out of his work cloths and and drapes his work clothes over the table, chair, doorknob - anywhere except in the wardrobe! It KILLS me! We're just talking a shirt and trousers, nothing dirty, but STILL! I've been telling him to stop it for eight years now, and he STILL does it!
My husband loves to cook and is quite good at it but when he does it he often talks to me and the kids like we're the audience in his own cooking show. Hilarious at first but annoying after a while.
Eco-Chic-Daddy is an ingredi-eater as well!!!
Especially carrots. Every time, he eats all of the chopped carrots that were supposed to go into dinner, and yet I have never seen him peal, chop and eat a carrot as a snack. What's with that?
His other annoying food habit is that he likes to pick individual lettuce leaves straight out of the salad bowl and eat them by dangling them into his mouth. Can you picture that?!
Like you girls, I love my boy to death. We all have our quirks and I'm sure mine are much worse!
Shedding his dirty clothes like a frigging snake and just leaving them on the floor.
Arggghhh....drives me insanely insane.
it's funny how they do the most annoying little things but ofcourse we still LOVE them!
I don't like the tasting my weighed out ingredients, leaving clothes around and putting wrappers for eg on the bench when the bin is 3 steps away..I don't mind that much though because his good definitely outway the few annoying bits.
Carley for onion/garlic smell I think you rub your fingers on the sink and the steel does something to it & the smell disappears..try it out, I always forget to.
He actually makes suggestions that work! I get annoyed saying no no I have my plan and then he persists and I try it and he's right. Grr. I hate it when he's right!
You must REALLY love him to put up with that nonsense.
But there is always the wooden spoon around the back of the legs, no?
:)
I'm not like you in the kitchen in as far as I don't measure, I don't have it set all up nice and I always taste and eat before the mixture is ready.
But I share your love of cooking and creating and alone time in the kitchen. (You do seem a very fabulous cook I gotta say!)
I too love the little measured bowls (did someone just whisper 'anal' ?)and doing everything in a calm and theraputic manner(did someone just whisper 'can't afford professional help' ?)but without fail The Coach will drift into the kitchen, stir what I'm cooking and ask "Do you know what you're doing ?" Drives. Me. Kokobananas.
For me it's taking the toilet roll off the holder and leaving it on the towel rack (leaving it for me to put back). This has been going on as long as we've lived in our current home (nearly 6 years) and my level of exasperation has turned it into a bit of a joke between us now (he purposely does it to annoy me and I laugh along now because that's the one I just have to let him have).
I do the whole prep in bowls first too- before I pick up the kids so I can just cook when I'm ready. There are far too many things that my husband does that drive me mad, I really don't know where to even begin...
Where do I start? he only ever shaves just after i have cleaned the bathroom (farmer does not shave much except when bowl is clean), he leaves his belt on the floor every single night so Mr3 can than use it as a weapon, he leaves his coffee cup near the lounge every night so Miss10 can trip over it every morning (talk about groundhog day), he has the tv blaring and when I come in and ask 'what did they say' he replies 'I don't know'? he falls asleep on lounge then gets up at 11pm and has a shower just to disturb everyone! etc..lucky he's good in sack
No partner, but I DO live with the 3 other members of my family...
Dad constantly asks me to do stuff, like the washing, vaccuuming the floor, or making cappuccinos, and then spends ages moaning that I've done it wrong, and often redoes it himself.
My brother waits until 5 minutes before I need to brush my teeth, then locks himself in the bathroom to have a shower, without letting anyone know. He also leaves half a sheet of toilet paper on the roll, rather than changing it. On the rare occassion he changes it, he puts the roll on backwards (yes, I am that anal).
And mum says to me "It's [insert day of the week]. Do I like to watch anything on [day of the week]?" And usually follows this question up with "Right, now, which channel is that on?" if there IS something on TV that she likes to watch.
